Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run

Date & Time:
Repeats every week every Monday and every Thursday until Thu Nov 15 2018 except Thu Oct 11 2018, Mon Nov 12 2018.
Mon, 10/01/2018 - 2:30pm to 4:00pm
Location: Room Q- Ms. Espinosa's classroom

www.girlsontherunrockies.org

Girls on the Run is a place where all girls can be themselves.  We stretch ourselves physically, mentally, socially and emotionally.  We have an innovative program that combines training for a 3.1 mile run/walk race with a fun, health education lesson plan.  This program promotes individual achievement and self-confidence.  Girls gain self-esteem and learn healthy lifestyle habits while training for a 5k run/walk race.

What if I don’t like to run?

That’s ok!  We use the term “running” loosely and want girls to just be themselves and have fun.  Girls can run, hop, skip, speed walk or dance towards their goals.  The lessons promote self-challenge instead of competition; self-worth instead of societal worth and cooperation instead of rivalry.

Healthy Learning Paths Parent Night (2nd and 3rd grade parents)

Date & Time: Wed, 10/24/2018 - 6:15pm to 7:00pm
Location: Tarver

Our Healthy Learning Path's Team will be hosting another parent/caregiver evening of raising parent/caregiver awareness.  Our first evening focused on the importance of sleep for the young brain and our focus will now be on the importance of diet.  I know we can all agree that our student's performance can be affected by lack of quality sleep and also a lack of quality food.  There can be an abundance of junk calories consumed by our kiddo's daily and Healthy Learning Pathways is a way to educate and inform our parent/caregivers so that we get more prepared students in our classrooms and more balanced kiddos at home behaviorally.  A healthy snack will be provided.

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run

Date & Time: Mon, 10/29/2018 - 2:30pm to 4:00pm

REGISTRATION IS OPEN UNTIL MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH

Practice meets every Monday and Thursday from 2:30-4:00

Halloween Costume Guidelines

Adams 12 Five Star Schools encourages the opportunity for students and families to engage in celebration that is respectful to all cultures, religions, races, and beliefs.  In our continued efforts to maintain a respectful, safe and secure learning environment, the following guidelines for Halloween celebrations have been developed. These guidelines apply to students, staff, and participants of all Halloween celebrations both during and after the school day.

  1. Costumes that would otherwise violate the Student Dress Code (Superintendent Policy 5060) will only be allowed if approved by an administrator prior to wearing to school.  For safety reasons, masks or makeup should not cover the student’s face in a manner that makes the student unrecognizable. Masks or makeup that conceal student’s identity may be worn only during designated times such as during a costume contest.

  2. The following are considered not appropriate for school or school events:

  • Costumes that are overly graphic, promote violence or otherwise might logically be assumed to be offensive to others

  • Costumes that are sexually suggestive and would otherwise violate the school’s dress code

  • Costumes with sound effects, lights or other components which would disrupt the classroom learning environment

  • Costumes that could be considered insensitive to various races, cultures and religions.

  • Toy or facsimile weapons of any kind (guns, knives, swords, bats, etc.) are not allowed

  • Costumes or dress of any kind that may be potentially disruptive to the educational or school environment

In alignment with Superintendent Policy 5060, school administrators may ask students or participants to change into school appropriate attire and/or remove masks, makeup, or costumes.

Halloween Guidelines Addendum (RE:  Clown Costumes)
As you may recall, in 2016 the Five Star District prohibited students and staff from wearing clown costumes on school grounds due to social media threats nationwide. Although we have not been made aware of any similar threats this year, district  leadership made the decision to leave this prohibition in the 2018 Halloween guidelines. As always the safety and security of students and staff is our first priority, therefore students and staff are prohibited from wearing clown masks or costumes on school grounds. This adjustment was made in the best interest of the school community and creates a safe environment for students and staff at Halloween celebrations this year.
